I can relate to this saying.  I was hunting alone and came out so late that I could not see the markers and started shooting my rifle for help.  If only I had followed the creek bed, I would have been able to cross the man-made walkway to get out.  I guess I just froze but taught me a lesson.  Of course, the hunters came looking for me since I did not come out of the woods.  Hunters will wait on one another until all hunters are out of the woods before leaving the camp.
