Doe With Buck in Pursuit

I’ve seen this scene before; she circled back and crossed the road in the opposite direction, and he stopped with his vitals behind a tree before taking after her again. Fun memories per Gene Briley.

I Love Peanut Butter & Bread

My Facebook friend Mike Persichini feeds peanut butter and bread to deer in his backyard in Michigan. The deer love it!

Doe

Did you know that female deer live in a structured, hierarchical family unit, and that they are very much creatures of habit? They routinely follow the same schedule day in and day out. They remain together across multiple generations. And while similar in appearance, each is unique in terms of looks, personality and attitude. While they are a common site within the Hudson Valley, and easily overlooked, with the exception of when they eat your favorite landscaping, they are far more interesting and complex then we give them credit for.
This doe I’ve known for more than a decade. She is the matriarch in my neighborhood and treats me as one of the herd. She will come running if I call to her, and loves it when I cut fresh maple tree branches or put fresh water in the bird bath. When you look into her eyes, you can see she has a beautiful spirit and soul. And despite all of this, and all the photo shoots we’ve done together, this is the kind of sass she gives me yesterday when trying to capture a great portrait. Unbelievable!
Thanks for looking. And while we’re all familiar with the phrase… “stop and smell the roses.” I say… “stop and watch the deer.”
UPDATE: Oh deer! Thank you to everyone that has taken a moment to like and comment on my post. The outpouring of stories, pictures, moments and memories is amazing. I’ve tried my best to keep up with the many comments, but it’s near impossible. And I just noticed that I can no longer reply, outside of an emoji. Just know that I am reading every one’s reply, and loving the many stories and pictures. Please keep them coming, as we need more of these feel good moments and a greater feeling of connection. Simply stated: THANK YOU!!!

Deer House

Drove down an old back road today, and it looks like this little lady took up residence here. Photo by Stephen Price.

Have A Blessed Easter

It’s thought that Easter lilies came to symbolize Christ not only because they embody purity—the trumpet-shaped blooms recall the horns that heralded the resurrection of Christ. And the life cycle of Easter lilies, which grow from a bulb for several years beneath the earth before blossoming into magnificent flowers, recalls Jesus’ death and resurrection. What other springtime flower could possibly represent Easter and Christ better? A beautiful reminder both in the Church and at home in celebration of Easter.

When You Die...

WHEN YOU DIE, don't worry about your body... your relatives will do whatever is necessary according to their possibilities.

They will take your clothes off, wash you, dress you, take you out of your house, and take you to your new address.

Many will come to your funeral to "say goodbye." Some will cancel commitments and even miss work to go to your funeral.

Your belongings, even what you didn't like to lend, will be sold, given away, or burned.
Your keys, your tools, your books, your shoes, your clothes... And rest assured that the world will not stop to cry for you. The economy will continue.

In your job, you will be replaced. Someone with the same or better capabilities will take your place.

Your assets will go to your heirs.... And do not doubt that you will continue to be cited, judged, questioned, and criticized for the small and great things you did in life.
People who knew you only by your appearance will say; Poor man or woman! He or she had a great time!
Your sincere friends will cry for a few hours or a few days, but then they will return to laughter.
The "friends" who pulled you to partying will forget about you faster.
Your animals will get used to the new owner.
Your photos will hang on the wall or remain on a piece of furniture for a while, but perhaps they will be stored at the bottom of a drawer. And we will only live in the memory of those who loved us.
Someone else will sit on your couch and eat at your table.
The deep pain in your house will last a week, two, a month, two, a year, two... Then, you will be added to the memories, and your story is over.
It ended up among people, it ended up here, it ended up in this world.
But begin your story in your new reality... in your life after death.
Your life is one where you couldn't move with the things from here because, when you left, they lost the value they had.

In your new life, you will only need your spirit. And the value you have accumulated here will be the only fortune you will have there.

That fortune is the only one you will take with you and it is amassed during the time you are here. When you live a life of love for others and peace with your neighbors, you are amassing your spiritual fortune.
That's why try to live fully and be happy while you're here because "From here, you won't take what you have. You'll only take what you gave."

Life @ 83 Years

That's so true. I'm so fortunate to still be alive at 83 years of age and enjoy my four daughters, six granddaughters, three grandsons, and five great-grandsons.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!
