My first 8-point taken on New Year's Eve '89

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors", from the Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

  2. I remember that bench from back in the early 80s. Is that camp still active?

    Thanks Alan.

  3. Hi Alan - yes, the camp is still active but my husband and I do not belong to it anymore...very costly, but my step-son, Greg, is a member. I really miss the place. Was fortunate to go back a year and half ago for a visit and it brought back a lot of fond memories. I posted it on my main blog, Marian's Hunting Stories and you can do a search at the top on my blog. Just type in Brown's Point and it should come up. Also, took pictures of the fish camp at the north end of the camp. I was there also in the mid-eighties and got my first and second 8 pt. there. I really miss the sand bar which was so much fun the ride the sandbars on our 4-wheelers...you can do a search on that also...have pix of Greg dumping me one time. Thanks for coming by and will check out your site as well.
